Self-Care Tips for a Less Stressful Holiday Season
The holidays are a time for gathering with loved ones, celebrating special occasions, and giving thanks for life’s greatest blessings. But as magical as the season may be, it is also synonymous with stress: from parties and gift shopping to hosting guests and meal prepping, there’s a lot of planning and responsibility that come with this festive time of year. As such, it’s important to practice self-care during the holiday season in order to maintain balance and sanity. Here are some tips you can use to help keep yourself healthy, happy, and energized during this busy time:
Make Time For Yourself:
It’s easy to get lost in the bustle of everything happening around you. Try to carve out moments of “me time”—go on a walk or read a book, do yoga or meditate—whatever helps you relax and de-stress, even if it’s for just 10 minutes.
Prioritize Sleep:
While it can be tempting to stay up late trying to cross items off your seemingly never ending “to-do list” make sure you still get enough rest each night (at least 7-8 hours). A good night’s sleep will leave you feeling refreshed and ready to tackle whatever comes your way!
Exercise Regularly:
Exercise not only helps keep your body fit but has psychological benefits as well; when endorphins are released during physical activity our moods naturally become elevated which produces feelings of relaxation and happiness. So make time each week for an exercise routine that works best for you—even if it’s just 20 minutes a day!
Eat Well & Mindfully:
Eating healthy foods provides us with energy while nutritious meals give us the necessary nutrients we need to stay healthy both physically and mentally. Make sure you take the time to sit down at mealtimes too; eating mindfully allows us to really appreciate what we’re consuming while also helping us internalize when we’ve had enough so that we don’t overeat!
Carve Out Quality Time With Loved Ones:
The holidays are all about spending quality time with loved ones; whether it’s an evening spent playing games or catching up over coffee, make sure these moments become part of your regular routine during this festive season!
Say No To Things That Don’t Serve You:
Holidays often bring obligations like attending obligatory events or taking on tasks that might not necessarily fill us with joy—so don’t be afraid to say no when something doesn’t feel right for you! This will allow more room in your schedule (and headspace) for activities that do bring joy into your life instead.
Practice Gratitude & Find Joy In The Little Things:
Take the time every day to express gratitude for all the little things in life—from a hot cup of tea first thing in the morning or a cozy fire crackling nearby at night—the beauty is truly in the small details! Allow yourself some moments here and there throughout each day just sitting back and appreciating life’s simple pleasures so that they’re not taken for granted amidst all the hustle & bustle of this season!
Seek Professional Help If Needed:
Last but certainly not least, if needed don’t hesitate reach out for professional help should any mental health issues arise during this period due stress from holiday preparations or even post-holiday blues afterwards; seeking help from trained professionals can be invaluable in getting through difficult times!
