Easy Crafts You Can Do With Your Kid This Summer
It’s summertime, and the kids are out of school, which means that you may be scratching your head for ways to keep them busy. Crafts are a great way to entertain children and make some lasting memories together. Here are five easy crafts you can do with your kids that don’t require much preparation or special materials.
1. Paper Plate Mask: All you need is a paper plate, markers, scissors, glue, glitter, pom-poms and any other decorations you have lying around the house! Cut out eye holes in the paper plate and then let your child decorate it however they want! They can draw stars or flowers on it, use glitter or paint – whatever their imagination comes up with!
2. Dream Catchers: Dream catchers are a great way for your kids to explore their creative side and are easy to make with just yarn, feathers, string and a hoop (which you can find at any craft store or even use a coat hanger!). Let your child choose the colors of yarn they want to use and help them tie knots around the hoop until it’s completely covered in yarn. Then add feathers, beads and other decorations. When they’re done, hang it up in their bedroom window!
3. Popsicle Stick Houses: Popsicle sticks are one of the most versatile materials when it comes to crafts! All you need is popsicle sticks, glue, scissors and whatever additional decorations you may have around. Let your child design their own miniature house, or if they’re feeling adventurous they can even make a castle or other structure!
4. Paint Chips: Paint chips are usually free from hardware stores and you can use them to create all sorts of art projects for your kids. Cut out shapes from the paint chips, like animals or flowers, then let your little ones color in the shapes with markers and/or glitter for added flair. You could also make a mosaic by gluing several paint chips on top of one another to create different patterns – it’s up to you!
5. Crayon Art: If you want something that will take less time and is still super fun, try crayon art! All you need is a canvas or any other piece of paper and crayons. Have your child draw their own design on the canvas with the crayons, then take a blowdryer set to low heat and hover it over the drawing. The heat will cause the wax from the crayons to melt and create a unique look for each artwork.
Crafts are a great way to spend quality time with your kids – not only will they have fun creating something, but they’ll also be learning valuable skills like problem-solving, creativity, coordination and more! So next time you’re looking for ways to keep your kids busy this summer, get creative with some of these easy crafts!
