For those living with high levels of anxiety, having a pet can be incredibly beneficial. A pet can provide an important source of comfort and companionship, while also taking the focus off stressful situations or worries. However, not all pets are equal when it comes to providing a calming effect for those with anxiety. Some animals require more care, attention and energy than others, potentially creating more stress in the process.

Cats are often seen as top contenders when it comes to the best pet for people with anxiety. They often require minimal maintenance and are content to stay within their home environment without needing extra stimulation from walks or trips outside, making them low-maintenance companions. Cats have also been shown to lower cortisol levels, reducing feelings of stress and anxiety. Furthermore, cats provide a sense of safety that can be very comforting for those who live with high levels of anxiety due to their natural instinct for self-preservation and wariness around strangers or potential dangers.

Fish are another excellent choice for those who have high levels of anxiety, as they don’t require much interaction or maintenance from their owner aside from occasional feeding and tank cleanings. Watching fish swim in their tanks is incredibly calming and peaceful – studies have even shown that gazing at aquariums can reduce heart rate and blood pressure while increasing serotonin production in humans. Aquariums also help absorb noise and distract the mind away from anxious thoughts by providing something soothing yet interactive to focus on during times of stress or worry.

Rabbits are another great option for those who struggle with anxiety since they do not require strenuous exercise like some other pets such as dogs or horses might. Rabbits typically need a few hours per day outside their cage but otherwise enjoy exploring indoors where they can be supervised but kept within a safe environment away from external threats that could increase feelings of distress or fear associated with heightened levels of anxiety. Rabbits are quite social animals as well so they enjoy being able to interact with their owners despite not needing physical touch as much as other creatures – making them perfect companion pets for those with high anxiety issues who may find comfort being around an animal but don’t want the hassle of excessive cuddling or playtime required by some species.

Other small animals such as guinea pigs, hamsters, guinea pigs, and gerbils may also be suitable options for those living with high levels of anxiety – especially if these creatures come pre-socialized so that little extra effort is needed in order to get them comfortable around humans again after adopting them into your home life. These types of smaller animals also won’t take up too much space within your home – allowing you to keep your sanctuary feeling undisturbed yet still filled with plenty of love from your furry (or scaly) little friend!

There is no one-size-fits-all pet solution for everyone suffering from higher levels of anxiety; however each individual should take some time evaluating what typeof creature would best suit their lifestyle in order to maximize the benefits found from owning a pet while minimizing any additional sources stressors that may arise due to certain needs not being met (such as extensive grooming requirements). Certain breeds will appeal differently based on lifestyle considerations – so researching various species before committing yourself fully is highly recommended in order to ensure you make the right choice when selecting your new companion!
